Are you wondering how to get rid of ants in a kitchen? Or perhaps you have ants in your house that you need to get rid of? These five tips will help you eradicate these pesky pests for good.
#1 – Get Rid of Ants by Eliminating Their Food Source
Ants only come into a kitchen or home when they are in search of food. Make sure your kitchen counters are wiped down on a regular basis-at least once a day or multiple times per day. Never leave out crumbs or sticky substances.
#2 – Get Rid of Ants by Making Sure They Don't Have Access to Water
A secondary reason why many people end up with ants in their homes is due to water in the area, especially in the summer. Insects looking for a water source will sometimes hone in on leaky pipes or under-sink drips.
#3 – Eliminate Ants from Your Home by Wiping Down Surfaces with Vinegar
White vinegar leaves behind a residue that ants and other insects hate. Help eliminate them from your home by wiping down countertops, cabinets, and walls with a solution of vinegar and water. (Coincidentally enough, this will also help reduce any grease, grime, or food residue on these surfaces-leaving your kitchen squeaky clean!)
#4 – Remove Ants from Your Kitchen with Cinnamon
As strong as cinnamon is to human senses, it is dramatically magnified for ants and other insects. Create a barrier in your home to keep them out by placing a thin line of cinnamon around windows or any other place they can get in. (It is important to note that it must be a continuous line, or the ants will just go around it.) One great thing about this type of barrier approach is that most cats and dogs will stay away from it, too. This makes it much more safe for Fido and Fifi than most commercial pesticides.
#5 – Keep Ants Away by Sprinkling Coffee Grounds
Amazingly enough, ants are incredibly sensitive to caffeine. By sprinkling any outdoor ant hills with coffee grounds, you will eventually kill the nest. Why? The ants mistake the coffee grounds for food and carry it back as a food source. This method is much less expensive and a much safer method of killing ants than traditional baits-but be warned that it can take a few weeks to see a difference.
These simple and effective methods are an excellent way to get rid of ants in your kitchen this summer.
